    This horn came for the estate of a primitive antique collector outside of Philadelphia, PA.  The form is similar to early European horns called “post horns”, used by postal riders to announce their arrival in town. The standard post horn has one or two coils; this multi-coil is unusual.Several experts on Civil War memorabilia have looked at this piece, and all have said this type of horn had no official use under the Confederacy. The question remains whether a horn such as this might have been put to use unofficially by the CSA postal service. Worthy of further research
